Polish culture proudly promoted through traditional folk dance at Expo 2020 Dubai

Zespol Piesni i Tanca Śląsk, one of Poland’s largest folk ensembles, brought a splash of colour to Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre this evening (29 January) with traditional dance and brightly hued costumes.

Poland’s dynamic folklore was brought to life by the vivacious performance by one of the most recognised artistic groups in Poland. Founded in 1953 by Stanisław Hadyna, the son of a Silesian teacher and renowned for his collection of folk songs, the ensemble is named after the Silesia (Śląsk) region.

With a hauntingly beautiful choir and slickly choreographed ballet, the unique gala performance also exhibited Poland’s striking traditional costumes, “stroje ludowe”, with the stage awash with brightly coloured skirts, prismatic ribbons, detailed embroidery, delicate lacing and impressive beaded head-dresses.

The ensemble have performed more than 9,000 shows for more than 27 million people worldwide, and Expo 2020 Dubai proved a perfect platform to showcase their exceptional talents to an international audience.
