As climate concerns intensify and sustainability shifts from aspiration to a business imperative, companies across industries are increasingly embedding environmental responsibility across their operations, products, and long-term strategies. Across sectors, from technology and manufacturing to consumer electronics and energy-efficient solutions, businesses recognise that addressing environmental challenges requires collective action, innovation, and accountability.

This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Climate Action” and the global campaign message “Now for Climate,” place renewed focus on the urgency of accelerating solutions that reduce environmental impact while strengthening economic resilience. As governments, businesses, and communities seek practical ways to address climate challenges, sustainability is increasingly becoming embedded within business strategy, innovation, operations, and consumer engagement.

Technology enabling sustainability
The increasing focus on sustainability is reflected in the priorities of business leaders across the region. According to Deloitte Middle East’s 2025 C-suite Sustainability Report, sustainability ranks among the top priorities for executives in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, alongside technology adoption and geopolitical developments. The report also found that organisations are increasing their investments in sustainability initiatives, with technology and artificial intelligence emerging as key enablers of environmental progress and long-term business value.

In the technology sector, sustainability is increasingly being driven through digital innovation. Organizations are leveraging advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency, reduce emissions, optimise resource consumption, and support broader environmental goals. As enterprises accelerate their ESG commitments, technology is emerging as a critical enabler in helping businesses measure, manage, and achieve sustainability outcomes.

Sandeep Chandna, Chief Sustainability Officer, Tech Mahindra, said, “World Environment Day underscores the urgent need for collective action, innovation, and accountability in addressing climate challenges. At Tech Mahindra, we believe technology is a key enabler in accelerating sustainability outcomes and driving responsible growth. As we progress towards our commitments of achieving SBTi-validated Net Zero by 2035, a 90% renewable energy mix by 2030 and Water Positivity by 2030, we remain focused on embedding sustainability across our operations. We are also actively supporting enterprises in their sustainability journeys by leveraging digital innovation to help them meet their ESG goals. By integrating technology with responsible business practices, we are committed to delivering long-term value for our stakeholders while contributing to a more resilient, inclusive, and resource-efficient future.”

Sustainable products, packaging, responsible consumption
Beyond technology, manufacturers are also reassessing how products are designed, packaged, and delivered. The consumer electronics industry, for example, faces growing scrutiny over material use, packaging waste, and product lifecycles. In response, companies are increasingly adopting responsible sourcing practices, recycled materials, and more sustainable packaging solutions to reduce their environmental footprint.

“World Environment Day serves as an important reminder that sustainability is a shared responsibility,” said Jayakrishnan Poduwal, Director, Middle East, India & Africa at HAMA, “As a leading manufacturer of consumer electronics accessories, we recognize the role our industry plays in shaping a more sustainable future. Through responsible product design, sustainable packaging, climate-conscious operations, and ethical sourcing, we are committed to helping consumers make choices that are better for the planet.”

Energy-efficient Solutions
Sustainability is also transforming the built environment, where energy efficiency remains one of the most effective ways to reduce carbon emissions. As governments across the region advance ambitious climate and energy targets, demand is growing for solutions that enhance comfort while minimizing resource consumption. Energy-efficient technologies are increasingly becoming a key component of sustainable living and infrastructure development.

The business community’s efforts are also aligned with the UAE’s broader sustainability agenda. Through the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the country aims to triple the contribution of renewable energy and significantly improve energy efficiency, reinforcing the importance of energy-conscious solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Alberto Torner, Head of International Markets (AMEA) at Ariston Group, said, “Across the world, Ariston is committed to enhancing everyday life by providing practical, energy-efficient solutions that deliver comfort while supporting a more sustainable future. We are proud to see this commitment reflected in the UAE, where the importance of sustainability is embraced at every level, including by the government. We are especially grateful to our customers who continue to choose smarter, more sustainable comfort solutions for their homes and businesses.”

Cross-Industry Collaboration
The UAE continues to play a leading role in driving sustainability across the region through ambitious initiatives focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, circular economy principles, and net-zero commitments. As regulatory expectations evolve and consumers become increasingly environmentally conscious, businesses are recognizing that sustainability is not only an environmental responsibility but also a source of innovation, resilience, and long-term competitiveness.
