Zulekha Hospital advocates regular cardiac checks for early detection and prevention of cardiovascular diseases

DUBAI: Ahead of the important ‘World Heart Day’ on the 29th of September, observing the month as a ‘Cardiac Care Month’, Zulekha Hospital is carrying out multiple activities raising awareness on cardiac health. Webinars, corporate talks, complimentary consultations with experts and affordable health checks are available to masses encouraging them to address cardio vascular diseases in time.

Highlighting the criticality, complicated cases and treatment advancements in cardiology and cardiology surgeries, a Cardiology Conference was hosted by the hospital on Friday, 24 September 2021. The panel of speakers included Dr. Rajan Maruthanayagam – Specialist Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Fekry El Deeb – Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Yasser Mohamed Menaissy – Consultant in Adults and Paediatrics Cardiac Surgeries, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Helmy – Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, and Dr. Jayachandran Thejus – Specialist Interventional Cardiologist.

On the occasion the frontline staffs from Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) and American Heart Association (AHA) were honored for their commitment as first responders and their support to the “Save Hearts” initiative. The initiative is the hospital’s continuous awareness program in the interest of the well-being of the UAE residents that trains individuals on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills which can save a life during a cardiac emergency. With support from certified trainers of DCSAS, AHA, alongside their own team Zulekha Hospital has  hosted CPR training sessions across multiple mosques, government offices, schools, colleges, sports clubs and many other corporate and public gatherings with an aim to teach every individual the lifesaving skill of CPR. This year as well the awareness activities are supported by DCAS, AHA, Khaleej Times, Dar Al Khaleej, The Discounter App and RIZEK. 

Managing Director Taher Shams shares, “We see that cardiovascular diseases cause 40 per cent of the deaths annually around the world. Younger age groups also come to us with critical cardiovascular complaints. A well-equipped facility with multidisciplinary expertise must be made available to the people in need during emergencies such as cardiac arrests. While we encourage early detection of the disease, a healthy lifestyle and regular checks, we understand that emergencies can complicate things and therefore we are ready to attend any cases 24/7.”

The organization also advocates prevention of Obesity, Hypertension, avoiding consumption of high-fat and high sugar food that are major causes of CVDs. Speaking of the interest in their employees’ good health as well, Ms. Nafeesa Ahmed, Senior Director of Nutrition and Lifestyle Department at Zulekha Hospital says, “Every year our internal weight loss contest “Lose to Win” rewards employees who participate and make a committed effort toward a healthy lifestyle by practicing healthy eating habits and regular exercise regimes. This year we have over 200 participants and we are glad we are making a positive difference in their lives.”
