English Speaking Union organises meet-up on “Pakistan – Japan Relations”

KARACHI: There are three areas to foster our friendship with Pakistan in the future which include trade, investment and human resource training opportunities provided by Japan.

In trade, Pakistan can export more agricultural products to Japan like mango etc and for this Pakistan can also establish new industries of various sectors like fishery, pharmaceutical products. Japanese companies are interested to invest here and want to raise industries to substitute the import like dairy & pharma products. We can also strengthen or create exporting industries like car, textile, agriculture, fishery, food processing (morinaga milk just opened a factory here), mining, tourism and energy sectors.

This was stated by H. E. Kuninori Matsuda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan while delivering his presentation on the topic of “Pakistan – Japan Relations” at a meet-up arranged by the English Speaking Union of Pakistan here at a local hotel.

President English Speaking Union of Pakistan Aziz Memon, Vice President Kalim Farooqi and members of the National Executive committee attended this event at large.

Japanese ambassador briefed about human resource training opportunities being offered by Japan to Pakistan. The technical intern training program will be launched for 14 areas to train specific skilled workers. These areas include care workers, building cleaning management, machine parts & tooling, industrial machinery, electric/electronics/information, construction, shipbuilding and ship machinery, automobile repair and maintenance, aviation, accommodation, agriculture, fishery and aquaculture, manufacture of food and beverages, food service, he added.

Mr. Kuninori Matsuda said that there are three pillars of Japan’s development support to Pakistan. These are improving the economic infrastructure like transportation, electricity supply, water supply management, etc, the human security and social infrastructure like education, training, polio eradication, disaster risk reduction, ensuring peace and stability like security, telecommunication, etc.

Japan has always been supporting Pakistan’s growth since 1950s and have done a number of major projects here. Sharing about economic relations, he told that Toyota tsusyo opened a branch in Karachi in july 1952. Cotton trade between Pakistan and Japan flourished since 1950s and Pakistani cotton supported the very early stage of Japans growth, he lauded saying that Pakistan has received total support from Japan is 12 billion US dollars.

Japanese ambassador said that Karachi is to be a world business centre for Japanese people.

It has become the five largest business centres abroad for Japanese people other than New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore, he told.

Karachi is a cricket city and we also have a strong cricket team which might defeat Pakistani team someday. We will bring Japanese cricket team to Pakistan next year and we also need best coaches for team. Sports instructors should also get benefit from our new visa regime, the Japanese ambassador suggested.

To suggest solution for water issues of Pakistan, our fact finding mission will reach next month here and pay visit to three cities i.e Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. We are also going to open Japanese restaurants in these cities while our entertainment industry is also looking for Pakistani talent, he concluded.
