ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has inaugurated, its first Lego Innovation Lab at the ADNOC School in Sas Al Nakhl, Abu Dhabi.  LEGO Innovation Labs will also be established in ADNOC Schools, in Abu Dhabi and the Al Dhafra region, which will benefit over 6,000 Abu Dhabi students from Elementary to High School levels.

The LEGO Innovation Labs will enable students to learn to work together and practice their skills across all curriculum subjects and have access to LEGO Education’s global on-line collaboration communities.

Each LEGO Innovation Lab is based on a hands-on learning approach that actively involves pupils in their own learning process, with animation and video technology used to drive digital literacy. Among the skills children can develop are coding and robotics, as well as using LEGO bricks to explore science, technology and mathematics. The program also includes a dedicated training program and ongoing support for teachers.

An integral component of ADNOC’s integrated Corporate Social Responsibility program, the partnership with LEGO Education is closely aligned with the UAE government’s renewed focus on developing a diversified educational curriculum based on critical thinking, science, mathematics and technology, such as Artificial Intelligence and predictive data platforms.

Ghannam Al Mazrouei, Director, Human Capital and Administration Directorate and the Chairman of Education Entities Board of Trustees, ADNOC, said: “Our children’s education is critical to the future prosperity of the country. Today’s inauguration signals the implementation of ADNOC’s significant investment in the acceleration and growth of STEM education, in ADNOC schools, that will create a positive and long lasting impact on UAE society.

“As the nation increases its focus on innovation, it is fitting that ADNOC, through our integrated CSR program, honors our wise leadership’s vision and ambition to create even more engaging education experiences to allow our youth to fulfill their potential.”

The inauguration of the LEGO Innovation Lab was attended by Sarah Musallam, Executive Director Private Schools and Quality Assurance Sector, Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEC). She congratulated ADNOC on the opening of the LEGO Innovation Labs, stressing ADEC’s keenness to enhance teaching methods and provide high-quality learning programs that advance the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in all schools.

Musallem said: “ADEC encourages all creative initiatives that motivate students to excel and innovate and help them to create and absorb ideas and information, develop their innovative and research skills and fulfill their potential in order to contribute to the realization of  UAE vision 2021 and support the development of all sectors, particularly education.”

ADNOC’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts are centered on four areas: culture and community, education and innovation, safety and environment, and wellbeing and health. ADNOC’s aim is to create a positive and lasting impact on society, with efforts that incorporate social impact, volunteering and national service. News Desk
