AJ Sports hosts Legends’ Cup at Moin Khan Academy

KARACHI: Legends’ Cup by AJ Sports Privet Limited, a friendly cricket match between celebrities and Pakistani cricketers recently held in Moin Khan Academy. The match which was a tribute to all national heroes and celebrities (AJ Janbaz) playing against Pak cricketers (AJ Jannisar).

The celebrities who were seen there, many of whom also played were: Mikaal Zulfiqar, Danish Taimoor, Kamran Jeelani, Fahad Mustafa, Farhan Ali Agha, Faheem Abbas, Faiq Khan, Ali Kazmi, Fahad Sheikh, Tahir Kazmi, Sami Khan, Shehryar Munawar, Abbas Jafri, Noman Habib, Nawab Alam, Shahzad Raza, Asad Zaman, Irfan Motiwala, Faisal Jameel, Shahzad Ali Khan, Shabbir Jan, Fakhar-e-Alam, Nauman Arfeen, Shamoon Abbasi, Sahir Lodhi, Mohsin Talat, Sohail Maqsood and Tipu Sharif. Veterans including cricketers such as Muhammad Asif, Salman Butt, Saeed Ajmal, Aizaz Cheema, Fawad Alam, Tauseef Ahmed, Sohaib Maqsood, Hammad Azam, Saleem Jaffar, Iqbal Qasim and Shahid Wadood were seen playing for their team AJ Jannisar. Jalal-ud-din was present as a mentor and Shoaib Muhammad as a special guest.

The event was a highly charged one beginning with a Green Carpet area designed as a cricket pitch where Rafia Rafiq, the host, invited VIPs to take their pictures against the media wall, and kids got their faces painted with Pakistan and the teams’ flags and were presented balloons. The whole stadium had an air of cricket fever with the teams’ flags flying and skylights beckoning everyone to the stadium. The fences in the stadium were decorated with flags and balloons in the colours of the teams – maroon and green –and mascots waving flags, men on stilts, clowns and fire-eaters could be seen all around the stadium, adding a festive air to the proceedings and boosting the team morale.

The programme’s proceedings conducted by Anoushay and Dino started with a toss for the batting team after which two mascots could be seen running into the field, waving Pakistan’s flags. The teams walked in with little school children accompanying them and the national anthem was then played. A spectacular laser show followed and the match then began officially.

Everyone attending the event was in high spirits, with spectators blowing whistles, waving pompoms and placards every time a batsman scored a four or a sixer. Nabila Bano and Rafay’s spectacular performances in between the two innings and Fakhr-e-Alam’s wonderful entertaining segment, as well as the auction by him and Anoushay, kept the spectators glued to their seats. The match ended with lit-up paper lanterns flooding the skyline and the awards ceremony taking place.
