Cholistan University Signs MoU with ICCBS–University of Karachi

KARACHI: The Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.

The primary objective of the MoU is to promote collaboration in livestock genomics and academic and research activities.

The agreement was formally signed during the visit of the CUVAS delegation, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, to ICCBS, University of Karachi, at a ceremony held at the Center.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director ICCBS, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, Vice Chancellor CUVAS, on behalf of their respective institutions. Senior officials from both institutions were also present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah said that ICCBS is among the leading centers of excellence in chemical, biological, and biochemical sciences, serving as a hub for research and training scholars from various countries. He noted that ICCBS is one of the premier research establishments in the developing world, with a reputation that extends far beyond Pakistan’s borders. He added that ICCBS has been designated as a Centre of Excellence by UNESCO, WHO, TWAS, and the OIC.

He further stated that the MoU provides an opportunity for ICCBS and CUVAS to collaborate in accordance with international academic standards and applicable national regulations under mutually agreed terms.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz said that CUVAS, as a public-sector university, takes pride in being at the forefront of addressing industry needs through comprehensive degree programs, cutting-edge research projects, advanced technology centers, and impactful services.

As a leading institution in veterinary and animal sciences, CUVAS is committed to contributing to economic growth and creating business opportunities through the commercialization of research, he said. He added that the university emphasizes research-focused teaching to ensure students receive high-quality education and acquire skills for successful careers, particularly in the livestock sector of South Punjab and Pakistan.

According to the MoU, both institutions will collaborate to facilitate the exchange of faculty members, researchers, and experts for research, teaching, and knowledge sharing. They also agreed to conduct joint research programs and develop collaborative proposals for submission to relevant national and international funding agencies.

The agreement will further provide opportunities for faculty and researchers to participate in conferences, symposia, seminars, and workshops organized by either institution.
