KARACHI: Tawab House welcomed an evening of warmth, friendship, and international goodwill as a dinner reception was hosted in honour of H.E. Mrs. Dyah Raro Esti Widya Putri, Vice Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, by Mr. Ibrahim Khalid Tawab, Honorary Consul General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Tawab shared that he and the Vice Minister were university classmates in England more than a decade ago. He described the gathering as not only a diplomatic engagement, but a reunion of old friends. “In our culture,” he said, “welcoming a guest into one’s home is like opening the doors of the heart.”

H.E. Mrs. Dyah Raro Esti Widya Putri, leading a high-level Indonesian trade delegation, expressed Indonesia’s strong interest in deepening trade cooperation with Pakistan and advancing discussions on a Pakistan–Indonesia Free Trade Agreement. She invited Pakistani businesses to explore Indonesia’s growing markets and investment opportunities.

Mr. Tawab also emphasized the importance of improving connectivity between the two nations and called for direct flight links between Pakistan and Indonesia, noting that stronger people-to-people contact is the foundation of lasting bilateral relations.

The reception brought together an esteemed gathering of diplomats and business leaders. Consul Generals of Indonesia, Afghanistan, Iran and Thailand, and Honorary Consul Generals of Zimbabwe, Yemen, Morocco, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique were present, alongside prominent business figures including Atif Ikram Sheikh (President FPCCI), Arif Habib, Hanif Gohar, Zubair Motiwala, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Mazhar Ali Nasir, Shujaat Ali Baig, Shehriyar Taj (TDAP), Dr. Mian Zahid Hussain, and Ikram Rajput (President KATI), as well as members of the diplomatic corps and media.
