KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted a graceful farewell lunch in honor of Türkiye’s Consul General, Cemal Sangu. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Women’s Wing Chairperson and Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Faryal Talpur attended the event as the guest of honor. President of Arts Council Karachi, Muhammad Ahmad Shah, along with the governing body members, warmly welcomed the guests.
President of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmad Shah, emphasized strengthening Pak-Turkish cultural ties, cooperation, and deep commitment to shared heritage, highlighting the historic bond between the two nations.
On this occasion, PPP Women’s Wing Chairperson & MPA Faryal Talpur said that Pakistan has longstanding relations with Türkiye. She mentioned that her great-grandfather, Hassan Ali Effendi, was the first Consul General of Türkiye in Sindh and founded the Sindh Madressatul Islam in 1885, which is located in present-day Karachi. Faryal Talpur expressed her best wishes for Cemal Sangu.
Consul General Cemal Sangu praised the role of Hassan Ali Effendi in fostering Sindh–Türkiye relations. He thanked PPP Women’s Wing Chairperson Faryal Talpur and President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari for their efforts in sustaining the historic relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye and appreciated their contributions.
At the end, PPP Women’s Wing Chairperson & MPA Faryal Talpur presented Consul General Cemal Sangu with Mirza Qaleech Baig’s book “Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi” along with a bouquet.
The ceremony was also attended by Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, PPP Karachi Division President & Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, senior leader Nisar Khuhro, veteran actor Manzoor Saeed, writer Noor-ul-Huda Shah, columnist Ghazi Salahuddin, journalist Mazhar Abbas, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, Qasim Soomro, as well as Consul Generals of various countries and other distinguished personalities.
