KARACHI: Dr Ali Usman Qasmi, Professor of History and Director of the Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at LUMS, delivered a talk and presentation titled “Whose Jinnah? Which Ideology? Debating Pakistan’s Foundational Ideas” at the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum (QAHM), Karachi. The event explored Pakistan’s historiography, ideological debates and evolving interpretations of the country’s foundational ideas, including changing narratives surrounding the Indus Valley Civilisation and post-1971 debates on Pakistan’s identity and ideology.
The session, which drew academics, media representatives and civil society members, featured a lively question-and-answer discussion. The event opened with welcome remarks by Commodore Sadeed Malik, Secretary General, QAHM, while Ameena Saiyid S.I., Member of the Board of Governors, QAHM, introduced the speaker and delivered the closing remarks. The gathering was attended by H.E. Mr Sakib Sadakat, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Khalid Rahman, Dr Yaqoob Bangash, Nadia Ghani and other distinguished guests. QAHM continues to promote informed dialogue on Jinnah, Pakistan’s history, identity and place in the world.
