KARACHI: In a bid to counter the rising environmental pollution and soaring temperatures, the Sarjani Town Welfare Association (STWA) has kicked off its annual tree plantation campaign. The drive was inaugurated along the road adjacent to the Central Muraqba Hall, where a large number of citizens actively participated in the plantation activity.

Speaking at the occasion, Association President Muhammad Arif announced that around 250 saplings are planned to be planted as part of the “Tree Plantation Week” initiative. Additionally, plants are being distributed among residents for potting at their homes to encourage local greening efforts.

“We are planting mature saplings to ensure they take root quickly, thrive, and soon begin bearing fruit and flowers that will benefit the environment,” said Arif. He stressed that addressing challenges such as climate change, pollution, and global warming requires collective community action.

He also highlighted the long-standing contributions of the Sarjani Town Welfare Association, which has been actively working in the underprivileged area since 1994 in sectors including health, education, sports, and environmental sustainability. “Every year, hundreds of trees are not only planted but are also regularly maintained to ensure they grow into strong, environment-friendly assets. To date, several hundred trees have been successfully planted in the locality,” he added.

Volunteer Mehmood Khan shared that the plantation drive formally commenced on July 27, and approximately 50 saplings, primarily almond and gulmohar, were planted on Sunday alone.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Waqar Yousuf Azeemi, head of the spiritual order Silsila Azeemia, who offered special prayers for the growth, welfare, and environmental contribution of the newly planted trees. Citizens who took part in the plantation also joined in praying for a greener and healthier environment.

Organizers emphasized that the campaign goes beyond mere tree planting. “It is a comprehensive effort to raise awareness and encourage environmentally responsible behavior among the public,” they said. Says in press release
