KARACHI: In view of the ongoing heatwave in Karachi and its adverse impact on public health, UAE Consul General Dr. Bakheet Ateeq Alremeithi, has directed the implementation of special precautionary measures to safeguard the health, safety and well-being of workers.
Under these measures, work will be suspended from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., while workers will be provided with shaded rest areas, clean drinking water and essential health and safety facilities to protect them from the effects of extreme heat.
The move comes at a time when Karachi is experiencing an intense heatwave, disrupting daily life and causing an increase in heat-related illnesses, including heatstroke, with a growing number of people seeking medical assistance at hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bakhit Atiq Al Romaithi said that protecting workers during extreme weather conditions is a humanitarian and moral responsibility, reflecting the United Arab Emirates’ values of compassion, human welfare and respect for human dignity.
He also urged all institutions and employers to prioritize the safety and well-being of workers during the ongoing heatwave and adopt appropriate precautionary measures to ensure the protection of human lives.
