MUSCAT: SalamAir, Oman’s Low-Cost Carrier, is pleased to announce the launch of a twice weekly service to Mogadishu Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) from 03 September 2026, marking the first-ever non-stop link between the Sultanate of Oman and the Somali capital. The new route expands SalamAir’s growing African network and strengthens its strategic focus of developing new markets using affordable and reliable air travel.
One of East Africa’s oldest and most culturally significant coastal capitals, Mogadishu is located beside the Indian Ocean and serves as a vital maritime and commercial gateway linking East Africa with the Middle East and Asia. With rising business activity, vibrant markets, historic landmarks, and a developing hospitality sector, Mogadishu continues to strengthen its position as an emerging regional hub for trade, investment, and cross-border connectivity.
Commenting on the launch, Adrian Hamilton-Manns, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, said: “Launching the first direct service between Oman and Mogadishu is a strategic milestone for SalamAir and is part of our strategy of developing news markets. We continue to expand our network in East Africa and expect to add more currently unserved destinations in the near future. Somalia is the 3rd East African country in our network, joining Kenya and Sudan. Somalia has seen significant economic growth and development in recent years; our direct flights will further stimulate the economy and help create new travel and trade opportunities.”
With one-way Lite fares starting from OMR 79.99, SalamAir continues to focus on making travel more affordable for its customers. The schedule is designed to offer convenient connections across the GCC, the Indian Subcontinent, and SalamAir’s expanding Europe network, giving passengers greater flexibility and travel choice.
Mogadishu forms part of SalamAir’s focused growth strategy, aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in enhancing international connectivity, supporting tourism development, facilitating trade flows, and contributing to economic diversification. By expanding direct air links into high-growth markets, SalamAir continues to strengthen Oman’s global connectivity footprint and its positioning as a competitive aviation and transit hub in the region.
