In a historic and unprecedented gesture, officers of the Pakistan Merchant Navy, accompanied by their families, paid a solemn tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the revered Founder of Pakistan, at the Mazar-e-Quaid.

The ceremony marks the first-ever formal tribute by Merchant Navy officers in the country’s maritime history — symbolising the deep connection between Pakistan’s seafarers and the founding ideals of the nation. The event underscored the Merchant Navy’s enduring commitment to national pride, unity, and service to Pakistan’s economic and maritime advancement.

Speaking on the occasion, Capt. Farid Masud, FNI, FCILT, PHF, Chairman of The Nautical Institute (UK) – Pakistan Branch, highlighted the symbolic importance of the tribute:

“From the depths of the sea to the heart of the nation, the Merchant Navy stands proud to honour the vision, integrity, and leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This historic tribute represents not only our respect for the Founder but also our pledge to uphold the same values of discipline, dedication, and nation-building that he inspired.”

The ceremony also paid rich tribute to the Pakistan Navy, whose strength, vigilance, and professionalism have always stood as the nation’s first line of maritime defence. From safeguarding Pakistan’s territorial waters to ensuring the security of international trade routes, the Pakistan Navy’s unwavering commitment has enabled the Merchant Navy to operate with confidence and pride across the world’s oceans.

Whether during times of peace or under the shadow of conflict, in combating piracy threats or undertaking humanitarian missions, the Pakistan Navy has consistently proven itself as a formidable guardian of the seas and a symbol of national resilience and unity.

The Merchant Navy expressed its deep gratitude for this bond of strength and mutual respect, acknowledging that without the protection and partnership of a strong Pakistan Navy, the safety, honour, and operational freedom of the maritime fraternity could never have been fully realised.

Together, both the Pakistan Navy and the Merchant Navy embody the spirit of Pakistan’s maritime strength — united in purpose, steadfast in resolve, and dedicated to ensuring that the nation’s flag continues to sail proudly across every horizon.
