“Consistent awareness can bring real change in society and environment,” says Principal Nabila Rafiq

KARACHI: Green Minds Pakistan successfully concluded a five-week-long environmental awareness session at Razia Raheem Bux School, Landhi. The final day of the program saw students of classes 9 and 10 participating enthusiastically in a plantation drive, where two jackfruit saplings were planted in the school’s spacious lawn.

Commencing in early September, the awareness series included interactive lectures on environmental protection, pollution and its types, waste management, reducing household waste, tree plantation, and adopting eco-friendly lifestyle habits.

Founder and Lead Trainer of Green Minds Pakistan, Abdul Wali Khan, urged the students to minimize the use of plastic bags. Inspired by the session, several students creatively turned old fabrics into reusable cloth bags, which they have now started using for daily shopping.

During one of his lectures, Abdul Wali Khan emphasized that water conservation is not a modern concept but deeply rooted in Islamic teachings. He quoted the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who advised using water sparingly even during ablution (wudu).

Throughout the session, students learned practical eco-friendly habits such as replacing tissue paper with reusable cloth towels, avoiding disposable items, using kitchen waste for composting, and limiting chemical use at home. The participants showed great enthusiasm and pledged to incorporate these habits into their daily lives while spreading the message within their communities.

Students also received motivation for kitchen gardening, and several shared their own experiences of growing vegetables at home using old cans and pots.

Principal Nabila Rafiq praised the initiative, saying, the environmental workshop conducted by Green Minds Pakistan proved to be highly beneficial and impactful. Sir Abdul Wali taught the students in an engaging and practical manner, helping them understand how small daily actions—like reducing plastic use, planting trees, saving water, and maintaining cleanliness—play a crucial role in protecting our planet. The enthusiasm and learning spirit of our students were truly commendable. Such programs not only broaden students’ perspectives but also lay the foundation for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. Consistent awareness efforts like these can indeed bring lasting improvement in both society and the environment.”

At the closing ceremony, selected students were awarded recycled flower pots, while the school principal was presented with a plant as a token of appreciation.

It is noteworthy that Green Minds Pakistan has so far conducted environmental awareness workshops for over 1,000 students across various public and private schools, and currently, more than 300 students from three different schools are enrolled in their ongoing sessions.
