KARACHI: In a remarkable step toward sustainable urban living, TRE Cycle, a woman-led waste management and recycling startup, successfully hosted the ‘Clean and Green Karachi Movement’—a visionary event that underscored the urgent need for collaborative environmental action in the metropolitan city of Karachi.

The event, held recently, marked a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TRE Cycle and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB). The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Tariq Ali Nizamani, Managing Director of SSWMB, and Ms. Ambreen Bilal Sheikhani, Founder and CEO of TRE Cycle, formalizing their joint commitment to advance zero-waste policies, encourage source segregation, and reduce Karachi’s carbon footprint through innovative and practical waste solutions.

The event was honored by the presence of individuals from diverse sectors of society, including government officials, business leaders, climate advocates, corporate professionals, educators, social entrepreneurs, and creative artists. Each attendee brought a unique perspective, demonstrating that sustainability is a cause that transcends industries and walks of life.

The event showcased TRE Cycle’s impactful initiatives, including their creative Trash to Treasure project, green waste composting, and residential and commercial waste management model. Guests also explored visual exhibits that turned discarded materials into art pieces, highlighting the possibilities of upcycling in urban communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambreen Bilal Sheikhani expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the importance of partnerships in transforming Karachi into a clean and climate-resilient city. “This is not just an MoU—it’s a movement. A movement towards a greener, healthier, and more responsible Karachi. We are proud to be supported by visionary institutions like SSWMB who believe in public-private cooperation for real change.”

Mr. Tariq Ali Nizamani praised TRE Cycle’s innovative approach and reaffirmed SSWMB’s commitment to support startups and citizen-led initiatives that align with the board’s sustainability goals.

TRE Cycle extends heartfelt thanks to all the guests who took the time to join the event—from the public and private sectors, civil society, and media. Their participation was a powerful reminder that environmental change is possible when diverse minds come together with shared purpose.

As the movement gains momentum, TRE Cycle invites more organizations and citizens to take part in the journey to reclaim Karachi as a city of beauty, responsibility, and innovation.
