DUBAI/KARACHI: On 12 April 2025, Mr. Surashete Boontinand, Consul General of Thailand to Karachi presided over the opening ceremony of the Songkran Festival at the Pakistan American Cultural Center, Karachi. The event was held in coordination with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and the Pakistan American Cultural Center (PACC) with a view to celebrating the Thai New Year and 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and Pakistan. The event was a great success, with over 200 guests and members of media in attendance.

During his speech, the Consul General emphasized the significance of Songkran and its inscription as the UNESCO World lntangible Heritage of Humanity. He thanked those involved in making the event possible and assured the audience that he would do his best to deepen the amicable relationship between the two countries. Later, the guests were entertained with a variety of cultural performances from Thailand and Pakistan.

After the performances, the guests were invited to try Thai food and participate in Songkran’s water fight, along with other Thai cultural traditions that continued throughout the night.
