KARACHI: On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr 1445 H, the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat, hosted a vibrant Open House and Culinary Festival at Wisma Indonesia, the Residence of the Consul General, on 1 Syawal 1445 H. This celebration brought together the Consul General, consulate staff, citizens of Indonesia (WNI) in Sindh province, and counterparts from the Indonesian consulate, marking a joyous and culturally rich event.

His Excellency Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat

The Open House and Culinary Festival showcased the diverse and flavourful cuisine of Indonesia, offering guests an exquisite selection of traditional Indonesian delicacies. Attendees were treated to a culinary journey featuring dishes such as Nasi Putih, Lontong Sayur, Rendang Daging Sapi, Opor Ayam, G Kerupuk, Bakso, Es (Selasih, Lemon, Mentimun), Aneka Puding, Nasi Goreng, Bakso (Complit), Empek Empek, Es Buah, Cake, and Puding. These tantalizing offerings provided a true taste of Indonesia’s culinary heritage, allowing guests to indulge in authentic flavors and aromas.

The event also highlighted the growing popularity of Indonesian food products in Pakistan’s import market. A significant increase in imports from Indonesia in the food category, with a recorded 4.15% share amounting to USD 51.87 million of Pakistan’s total food imports, which stood at $1.25 billion in FY22. Indonesian products, including coffee, cookies, baby food, healthy sweeteners, various noodles, and candies, have become widely available in supermarkets nationwide, attracting enthusiastic interest from importers and consumers alike.

Beyond celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, the event served as a platform for cultural exchange and friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan. It showcased the vibrant spirit of Indonesian culture and hospitality, fostering deeper ties and mutual appreciation between the two nations.

On the occasion of celebrations of Eid al-Fitr this time, present in the midst of the Indonesian community in Karachi, dangdut artist Dewi Persik is currently visiting Karachi, which of course also provides its own excitement for the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr in Karachi in 2024.
