Thalassemia is a preventable genetic disorder. An awareness session regarding treatment and prevention of Thalassemia was held at the Help International Welfare by Zaamin Group, Rotary Club of Karachi Silver Sands and Womentor.
A galaxy of guests from the medical and corporate fraternity graced the event and celebrated the joint birthday of 6 Thal Stars and showered them with gifts and praises for their talent performances.
Thousands of new Thal cases are added to the statistics due to negligence in preventive measures, non compliance of laws regarding blood test before marriage and life threatening complications of the disease.
Even though the treatment options are now becoming available and medicine trials are showing positive results, it cannot be stressed enough that Thalassemia can easily be prevented by:
1. Avoiding Cousin Marriages
2. Pre Marriage Counselling with a Doctor
3. Thal testing before marriage
4. Avoid marriage between 2 Thal minor personsWe all need to take a pledge to educate ourselves, spread the awareness about thalassemia and it’s prevention and become an advocate of preventive medicine.
