DUBAI: Lufthansa has announced today that it will ramp upflight operations on its Frankfurt-Dubai route in September by 30 per cent, an increase of eight flights compared to the month of August. The addition of new flights follows the airline’s resumption of scheduled services from the UAE in early July in view of the steady growth in demand for intercontinental travel. There will be a total of five flights a week from 3 to 13 September and four weekly services as of 14 September 2020.

Dubai-Frankfurt service will depart at 1:15 am on all days excluding Wednesday and Friday during the period between 3 and 13 September and on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in the second half of the month. Meanwhile, flights from Lufthansa’s largest hub in Germany will depart at 2:30 pm on all days, with the exception of Tuesday and Thursday, during the first half of September and on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 14-30 September. The Group’s airlines will continue to implement stringent hygiene and safety protocols on the ground and onboard their aircraft, as well as offer tests for coronavirus in Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg.

Heinrich Lange, Senior Director Sales, Gulf, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Lufthansa Group, commented: “As an unparalleled mode of transportation that provides speedy connections between people, places and goods, aviation has become an integral part of modern life. The suspension of air travel due to border closures and mobility restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic had caused significant inconvenience to people around the world. At Lufthansa Group, we are working towards resuming regular operations to all our destinations to meet the needs of our customers.”

“We are pleased with increasing weekly flight operations on our Frankfurt-Dubai route. Our decision to increase services is in response to strong demand for flights between the two major cities and to the growing number of destinations offered via our hub. The recent revelation by the authorities in Dubai that the emirate’s main airport has been witnessing a massive increase in passenger numbers, with more than 20,000 travellers daily, is truly encouraging and underscores the need and importance of our flight services for the UAE,” Lange added.

In line with the directives of the UAE government for flights departing from Dubai, customers are advised to follow the current entry and quarantine regulations of the respective destinations. Passengers will under go thermal screening at the terminal building and must present a negative COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test certificate at the check-in desk to be allowed to travel. The certificate will be valid for up to 96 hours from the time of the PCR test. Travellers will also be asked to wear a face mask and gloves during the entire journey and maintain social distancing at all times. They must also download the COVID19 – DXB Smart App for key updates and information. Passengers that arrive at the airport more than four hours before the scheduled departure time will not be allowed access to the terminal building.

As part of its enhanced efforts to safeguard the health and safety of passengers, Lufthansa, in cooperation with Centogene and MediCare, has opened a dedicated walk-in testing centre at Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg airports to offer certified COVID-19 PCR tests with results delivered within a few hours. A negative COVID-19 test from one of these facilities will allow customers travelling via Frankfurt to avoid the need to quarantine themselves.

At Frankfurt Airport, located between Terminal 1 and the “Squaire,” the testing facility is open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 7pm and on Saturdays and Sundays between 9am and 5pm, and test results will be available within four to five hours.
