DUBAI: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, is strengthening the provision of its proprietary Green Building Tooltips through the added support of Rain Bird, a leading global manufacturer and provider of irrigation products and services, headquartered in Azusa, California.

This builds on the founding and continued sponsorship extended by BASF, the world’s largest chemical company and the leading supplier of polyurethane systems and specialties that create application-oriented industry solutions to promote sustainable building practices using the EmiratesGBC Tooltips.

A rich online resource on green building practices, EmiratesGBC Green Building Tooltips provide relevant information on green buildings for homeowners and developers, as well as for commercial building owners and tenants, architects, interior designers, planners and for educational institutions and healthcare providers. It also serves as a valuable tool for students — especially as they undertake remote learning — to gain insights on the best practices that inform green buildings and how the industry is supporting the move towards sustainable built environments. Teachers and students can form conversations around the themes and individual tooltips, which will enrich them with practical and educational insights into the building sector. Easy to navigate and access, the Tooltips feature three building typologies: Home, Office, and Schools and feature a section for Lifestyle & Awareness.

With the support of Taqati, BASF and Rain Bird, EmiratesGBC aims to further educate the industry and the community on the best practices they can follow in achieving higher levels of energy and water use efficiency as well as promote sustainable initiatives. Drawing on their expert guidance, EmiratesGBC has made modifications to the Green Building Tooltips, particularly in the areas of efficient landscaping through drought resistance and water management best practices as well as the application of sandwich elements, insulating boards and spray foam, to improve energy-efficiency.

HE Dr. Ali Al Jassem, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “Since its launch, the EmiratesGBC Green Building Tooltips have emerged as one of the popular referral sources for not just industry partners but also the community to identify and implement best practices for a more sustainable environment and buildings. The Tooltips highlight our commitment to foster awareness and knowledge about green buildings, and how through various measures, sustainable initiatives can be successfully incorporated in new buildings as well as in retrofits. With the support of BASF and the new sponsorship of Rain Bird, the EmiratesGBC Green Building Tooltips will offer a wealth of knowledge shared by these experts.”

Eng. Anas Al Kilani, International Business Manager, Rain Bird International, said: “We, at Rain Bird, are proud of collaborating with EmiratesGBC to update the content of EmiratesGBC Tooltips website. Through the intelligent use of water, Rain Bird is providing recommendations, advice and best practices to educate the community to achieve higher levels of water use efficiency. Improving the efficiency of the outdoor landscape irrigation can have a great impact on water conservation and promote sustainable initiatives. The newly updated content covers outdoor landscape irrigation for various applications such as at residential homes, education facilities and schools as well as commercial and office buildings.”

Dr. Udo Huenger, Vice President Middle East, BASF, said: “Our homes, schools and commercial buildings are the centre of everyday life and it is important to think how we can construct and operate them for a sustainable future. The EmiratesGBC Tooltips have been doing a great job in highlighting how water management practices and high-performance thermal insulations products can improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  Through our continued support of the Tooltips, we are bringing the green vision of the UAE a step closer to the built environment and the general public.”

The Tooltips are available for individuals and businesses to make informed decisions to make their homes, offices or schools more efficient and sustainable. EmiratesGBC also promotes the tooltips through various media and stakeholder engagement programmes. With over 170 members, EmiratesGBC rolls out a suite of activities such as networking events, technical workshops and trainings in order to push sustainability in the UAE and the wider Middle East.
