Consulate of Italy in Karachi, TAF Foundation and WE-NET organize a panel discussion on women empowerment

KARACHI: TAF Foundation, in collaboration with the Consulate of Italy in Karachi and WE-NET, organized a panel discussion titled: ‘Defining Women Empowerment in Pakistan – A Contemporary Perspective’, at Avari Towers on Tuesday, 10 December 2019. The panel discussion is part of a series of seminars and conferences by TAF Foundation under its social consciousness mandate to pave way for the development of women in Pakistan. TAF Foundation is working in the areas of Education, Health & Social Consciousness through effective and sustainable interventions across the country.

While speaking at the ceremony, the Consul General of Italy in Karachi, Ms. Anna Ruffino briefed about the different initiatives taken by the consulate and expressed solidarity with the vision & mission of TAF Foundation in empowering under privileged women of the Pakistani society.

The panel discussion moderated by Ms. Hina Mohammad Ali (NED University) comprised of opinion leaders like Ms. Nazafreen Saigol (Deputy Chief Executive- Dawn Media Group), Mr. Anjum Rizvi (Journalist & Human Rights Activist), Ms. Safeera Bibi (Public Speaker & Social Activist), Ms. Yasmin Hyder (Women Entrepreneurs Network for Trade- WE-NET) & Dr. Hina Hussain Kazmi (CEO, TAF Foundation).

The panel discussed upon different challenges and opportunities related to the empowerment of women in the Pakistani context. The esteemed panelists underscored the role of media & literature in defining women empowerment along with the widening gaps in the society due to different on-going movements related to women empowerment. The panelists also touched upon the opportunities and challenges faced by women in the workforce and businesses in Pakistan. The speakers proposed suggestions and solutions for issues faced by women in the Pakistani society and suggested ways to devise the definition of women empowerment in Pakistani context.

The event also featured a presentation through which Ms. Saira Nizam, Head of Placements & Business Development- TAF Foundation, shared the journey of TAF Foundation with the audience.

The guests also visited and appreciated the gallery walk, where students of TAFF- Vocational Training Institute (TAFF-VTI) presented projects and gave demonstration on the skills acquired at TAFF-VTI.
