KCFR elections: Ikram Sehgal re-elected as Chairman

KARACHI: Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR), an eminent think tank has elected its new cabinet and Board of Governors (BOGs) for next three years term 2019-2022. Majority of candidates were elected unopposed.

Elections were held at the culmination of annual general meeting of the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations in KCFR House located in Clifton area of city.

Lt. Gen. Retd. Moinuddin Haider, former federal minister and former governor of Sindh was the Chief Election Commissioner and supervised the process.

Ikram Sehgal re-elected as Chairman of KCFR. Other elected office bearers include Vice Admiral Retd. Khalid Mir as Senior Vice Chairman, Ambassador Mustafa Kamal Kazi as Vice Chairman, Dr. Huma N. Baqai as Vice Chairperson, Commodore Retd. Sadeed A. Malik as Secretary General and Kalim Farooqui as Treaser.

New members of BOGs included Javed Ashraf Hussain, Air Marshal Retd. Riazuddin Sheikh, Nadira Panjwani, Saleem Zamindar, Moin M. Fudda, Aziz Memon, Farooq Afzal, Dr. Shehzad Arshad and Arshad Saeed Hussain.

Earlier, in his welcome address to council members during annual general meeting first time held at KCFR House, Chairman KCFR Ikram Sehgal said that it was a dream to have dedicated house for the council which came true with efforts of all members especially of BOGs.

Appreciating support of Sindh Government, Ikram Sehgal told that it was possible mainly due to four tranches of Grant in Aid from provincial government. Its proposal was moved by Chairman Admiral Shahid Karimullah, which was extremely well coordinated by Muhammed Javed Ashraf Hussain from its basic sanctioning by the CM and he later worked along with the CEO to obtain this Grant in Aid from various offices of Govt of Sindh, he further said.

I am certain that this team shall continue and we shall obtain a similar Grant in Aid from the CM House this year also. Some very successful seminars and meetings with the ambassadors and Consul Generals were held during the year. We are now planning on a number of seminars, conferences and functions in the forth coming year also, Ikram Sehgal added.

Huma Baqai, Secretary General KCFR presented the year’s report. The 2018-2019 remained a busy year by having 18 major events including seminars, symposiums, she told.

KCFR treasurer submitted his financial report as well.
