Thai Airways maintains Thai traditions during Songkran Festival 2019

BANGKOK: Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) will join in conserving Thai traditions and culture during Songkran Festival 2019. To celebrate the festival, THAI female flight attendants will dress in national Thai costume from the reign of King Rama V of Thailand and THAI ground staff will welcome passengers with Rod Nam Dam Hua and Song Nam Phra activities whereby passengers will be asked for their blessing and have an opportunity to pour scented water over Buddha statues. Also, THAI will also serve special desserts to passengers during Songkran Festival.

Mr. Sumeth Damrongchaitham, THAI President, said that THAI, as the national carrier, has continually supported Thai heritage conservation during Songkran Festival. In the past, THAI flight attendants and ground staff have worn attire made of Thai silk and colorful flowered shirts to mark Songkran. In addition, THAI employees also wore attire made of Thai silk or Thai fabric on working days. On 13 April, two THAI flight attendants per flight will dress in traditional Thai costume from the reign of King Rama V of Thailand on THAI flights. THAI will serve special desserts to passengers on board THAI flights during 13-15 April 2019. On international flights, Fresh Mango and Sticky Rice with Anchan Coconut Sauce will be served to Royal First Class passengers, Mango and Sago Pudding will be served to Royal Silk Class passengers, and Pandan Sticky Rice with Mango Mousse and Coconut Cream will be served to Economy Class passengers. Domestic passengers will be served Mango Sticky Rice Cake and Crispy Jelly.

THAI check-in counters at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be decorated with Northern Lanna flags (Tung) while Thai scented water with folded banana leaves (Krathong) will be used in decorating the Royal First and Royal Silk lounges based on the Songkran theme. THAI Ground Customer Services Department also invites passengers to pour scented water over Buddha statues (a tradition called Song Nam Phra) at Premium Check-in Row A, Departure Hall, Fourth Floor, Exit One, and THAI lounges at Concourse D. THAI check-in staff will dress in Thai Rattanakosin costume. Special Thai desserts will be offered at all lounges during 12-14 April 2019, which includes Thai pudding with coconut topping (Khanom Tago) and Mung Bean Paste (Luk Chup) are offered in the Royal Silk Class Lounge and rice soaked in cool water (Khao Chae), Mango Sticky Rice, Thai pudding with coconut topping (Khanom Tago) and Mung Bean Paste (Luk Chup) are offered in the Royal First Class Lounge where passengers can experience Songkran and THAI hospitalities.
