Philippine pavilion opens at 16th Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: After a very successful stint last year, the Philippines is back again in the 16th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2019). This year, the Philippine Pavilion houses 26 companies, representing halal food, personal care/ cosmetics, tourism, and investment. Backed by Republic Act No. 10817 or The Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Act of 2016 and supported by various halal-related government agencies, such as the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Tourism, and the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority and Asian Halal Center, the Philippines’s participation is positioned to propel the country’s halal industry and exporters to the regional halal market.

To officially open the Philippine Pavilion at Hall 7, MITEC, an Opening Ceremony was held on 3 April 2019. Head of Delegation, Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary for Special Concerns and Trade Promotion Group, Hon. Abdulgani Macatoman and Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Special Concerns, Hon. Waldo Carpio led the Opening Ceremony and welcomed Guest of Honor, MATRADE Director of ASEAN & Oceania, Raja Badrulnizam Raja Kamalzaman. H.E. Rizany Irwan Muhamad Mazlan, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Malaysia in the Philippines and Ms. Katrina Banzon, Commercial Attaché, Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Kuala Lumpur joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Philippine delegates and other distinguished guests witnessed the event.

MIHAS 2019 is being held from 3 to 6 April 2019 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur. MIHAS is an annual event hosted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia, and is organized by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). MIHAS is a premier international halal event – one of the biggest halal tradeshows in the world. In 2018 alone, MIHAS saw more than 21,000 trade visitors and over RM1.52 billion deal flows.

This year, the Philippine delegation aims to gain a bigger share of the total trade and investment deals in MIHAS by breaking its 2018 export sales and investment leads record of over US$ 17 million. News Desk
