DUBAI: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, H.E. Humaid Al Qatami, Director General of Dubai Health Authority today officially inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Annual Radiology Meeting in UAE (ARM), the dedicated event for radiologists, radiographers, nurses and industry professionals at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center. The 3-day event, running until the 2nd of November, under the theme ‘Smart Imaging: Future of Radiology’, aims to put the spotlight on the latest trends, advances and technologies in radiology.

Following the opening ceremony, H.E. Humaid Al Qatami and a high-level delegation of VIPs, physicians, specialists and experts in radiology, toured the exhibition area, where they were briefed about the latest trends, technologies and equipment in this highly specialized field. This year, the exhibition, which is occupying an overall space of 3,960 sqm, witnesses the participation of 60 brands from more than 26 countries, who will showcase their latest digital tools and next generation technologies in imaging systems that enable a faster, smarter and simpler path to more efficient diagnosis.

During his opening remarks, H.E. Humaid Al Qatami said: “The Dubai Health Authority has succeeded in employing the most advanced technologies in artificial intelligence at one of its medical fitness centers and occupational health tests. This technology has achieved extreme accuracy in X-ray scanning reached up to 95% without any human intervention, which saves the time of the doctors and technicians. This huge success has motivated the Authority to imply this technology in all of its medical fitness centers and then gradually apply it in the hospitals”

He added: “The Annual Radiology Meeting in UAE is the perfect platform to exchange ideas and experiences & to discuss the latest developments and advancements in the emerging field of radiology. It also shed the light on the significant growing role of radiology as it is the pillar of the health system with all its fields.”

From his side, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of ARM, said: “Huge advances in digital technology such as ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘3D technology’ are having a massive impact on radiology, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for radiologists as well as the diagnostic imaging market in the UAE and the world. Today, radiology is no longer limiting itself to diagnosis but is equally playing a critical role in advancing sound clinical decisions and adopting an evidence-based approach towards treatment of various types of diseases.”

He added, “The Annual Radiology Meeting in UAE has clearly established itself as a leading scientific and educational platform in the MENA region, which aims to raise awareness and understanding about the latest trends and practices in the field of radiology. This year, the conference is playing host to 45 world renowned speakers and specialists in radiology, who will offer their valuable insights on various current trending topics, while 66 scientific sessions and lectures and 9 poster presentations, will improve knowledge and shed new light on the latest scientific research in the field. Moreover, the ARM is expected to attract more than 1,700 visitors and participants, setting the stage for a highly enriching and educational atmosphere over the next 3 days.”

On the first day of ARM, experts and specialists discussed a number of key topics related to radiology and diagnostic imaging such as: ‘Imaging of Biliary Tract Emergencies and Pitfalls in Imaging of Abdominal Trauma’, ‘The Radiology in Works of Arts and An Introduction to MR-Spectroscopy’ while also featuring a panel discussion under the title ‘Will Artificial Intelligence replace Radiologists in the Future?’.

While commenting on his participation in 3rd edition of ARM, Prof. Claude Pierre Jerome, Associate Professor of Radiology, Oslo University, Norway, said, “Since its inception, the Annual Radiology Meeting has been a huge success owing to its high standard of educational programs, diverse courses and scientific lectures in radiology. Furthermore, the agenda for this year’s conference is carefully designed to provide all attendees with a unique opportunity to reach their educational goals. The topic of my lecture was ‘Ankle Foot Unit’ in where I discussed the various pathologies taking place in case of fall trauma and repetitive trauma, which demands a prompt and accurate diagnosis to avoid long-term morbidity and disability.”

He added, “Radiology is a continuing branch of medicine and is probably one of the most rapidly developing medical specialty of our time. In the last 3 decades, new imaging techniques and sequences have emerged constantly and overwhelmed the radiology market. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) constitutes a new challenge for modern radiologists and with the advances taking place in the industry, new technologies are surely going to raise the bar of excellence in radiology”.
