DUBAI: Supported by a host of top-tier UAE-based companies and institutions as sponsors, the Global Islamic Economy Summit (GIES) 2018 is expected to gather 3,000 key stakeholders and decision makers from around the world for the fourth edition of the summit on October 30-31 in Dubai.

Dubai Islamic Bank has been announced as Headline Sponsor for GIES 2018. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank will support the summit as Diamond Sponsor, while Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) has been named Gold Sponsor.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, GIES 2018 is organised by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC), in cooperation with Thomson Reuters as a Strategic Partner. GIES 2018 will be held during the first-ever Islamic Economy Week, which was recently announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

Organised under the theme “A Shared Future”, the fourth edition of the summit will address the key trends and technologies that are transforming halal industries, and highlight Dubai’s strengthening role as a capital for the global Islamic economy.

His Excellency Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, and Board Member of DIEDC, said: “The esteemed sponsors and partners that have come on board for GIES 2018 will only add to the significance of the summit as a premier event focused on all aspects of the fast-growing Islamic economy. With their valuable support, we are confident that this year’s summit will be a major success that will enhance Dubai’s position as an Islamic economy hub.”

His Excellency Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni, Vice Chairman and CEO of DSOA, said: “DSOA is proud to participate in the fourth edition of the Global Islamic Economy Summit that has become an important international event for accelerating the development of the Islamic economy sectors. Our presence at the summit aligns with our commitment to supporting the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to establish Dubai as the global capital of the Islamic economy.”

H.E. Dr. Al Zarooni added: “Dubai’s increased focus on digital technologies and innovation continues to attract a growing number of companies that are active within the Islamic economy domain. This trend has spurred the development of new Islamic products and services and helped consolidate the emirate’s position as an international hub for Islamic e-commerce. DSOA hosts Islamic economy startups at its Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Centre (Dtec), the largest technology incubator in the Middle East that provides world-class infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities to support its business partners and stakeholders in growing their businesses.”

H.E. Abdulla Al Awar, CEO of DIEDC, praised the commitment of major public and private institutions in the UAE to support the summit. He stated that their participation is testament to their enthusiasm to contribute effectively to the success of Dubai becoming a hub for major international events and a destination for experts, officials and decision makers in the
field of Islamic economy. GIES will help this diverse group to explore the future of key sectors of Islamic economy and develop perceptions that stimulate sustainable economic growth and development.

“The Islamic Economy is built around sustainable economic development based on progressively empowering a bigger and bigger section of the populous”, said Dr. Adnan Chilwan, Group Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Islamic Bank. “This concept is already gaining momentum in the Islamic banking and finance industry through what has been aptly named Value Based Intermediation or VBI. Whilst the Belt and Road initiative is destined to provide a major boost to trade from China all the way through to UAE, the opportunities for job creation, knowledge transfer and exchange, and entrepreneurial activities stemming out from this highly strategic initiative are exactly in line with the parameters that govern the establishment of a VBI based Islamic economy.”

Mr. Khamis Buharoon, Acting CEO and Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) said: “We are proud to be partnering again with the Global Islamic Economy Summit, which has achieved tremendous success over the years. Since its inception, ADIB has been supporting GIES to become an ideal platform for industry leaders to share expertise and discuss the latest developments shaping the global Islamic economy. Today, this platform has become the starting point of innovative ideas that will positively shape the Islamic economy in the years to come. We look forward to this year’s summit, and will continue to support initiatives that strengthen the position of the UAE as the global capital for the Islamic economy.”

Several Media Partners are collaborating with the organising committee of GIES 2018 in the lead up to event. The list of media partners includes, international, regional and local top-tier publications and organisations.
