Mariam Almheiri and Sarah Al Amiri visits the ‘ALZAD World of Food’ pavilion at Mother of The Nation Festival

ABU DHABI: Her Excellency Mariam Almheiri, Minister of State for Future Food Security, and Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, visited the ‘ALZAD World of Food’ Pavilion, set up by the UAE Office for Future Food Security at the third edition of the Mother Of The Nation Festival, which is being held at the Abu Dhabi Corniche on March 22-31, 2018, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism.

The Ministers were given a tour of the pavilion’s six main areas, which shed light on contemporary issues and challenges facing the food security sector, as well as technologies and innovations transforming food production and future food security. The pavilion underlines the importance of nutritional food in maintaining good health, and introduces the community aspect and the public’s role in establishing a sustainable, healthy future.

“Ensuring food security is a main criterion in measuring the progress of countries and the success of their policies,” noted H.E. Almheiri. “Future Food Security in the UAE calls for addressing the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We must all work together to ensure long-term food security in the UAE; and there are several measures to take in this regard, chief among them is raising the public’s awareness around sound and sustainable food habits.”

“With that in mind,we designed the booth here at ALZAD –World of Food to showcase the food supply chain, and provide advice and guidelines for sustainable food production and consumption. We thank Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism for the outstanding organization of the event and we look forward to further awareness-raising activities in support of the future food security,” H.E. concluded.

For her part, H.E. Al Amiri said: “I am delighted to be visiting the booth here at ALZAD –World of Food,with its interactive experience that highlights the importance of future food security as a key component of society,a foundation for the well being and prosperity of our people and future generations, and a requirement for the stability of our national economy.”

“We are committed to playing our part in harnessing advanced sciences and channelling their outputs to develop agricultural technologies in arid areas to ensure a consistent supply of healthy foods for all members of the community, in all cases and under any circumstances,” H.E. Al Amiri added.

The Ministers visited the Legacy section of the booth, which is a zone that highlights the link between food and Emirati life and culture; as well as theFalaj section, which provides information on the traditional method of management for water resources that have historically had a positive impact on the development of agriculture in the UAE; and the Locally Grownsection, which displays the growth of the nation’s food sector, showcasing products from UAE farms.

Their Excellencies then moved on to The Main Food Elements and Healthy Nutrition Methods section, which includes informative facts and figure about the nutritional value of a variety of food items, before concluding their tour at the Innovate section, which highlights the more unconventional methods being used in the UAE and around the world to meet future food security challenges.
