ADLDI and Novo Nordisk conducts Hands-on Training Workshop for Nurses in the care of diabetic patients

LAHORE: Diabetes is a significant and growing challenge globally that affects individuals, families and society. As more people continue to be diagnosed with diabetes, its impact will have far-reaching consequences for people and governments everywhere. In Pakistan, there are an estimated 7.5 million people with diabetes and a prevalence of 6.9%. It is predicted that by 2045, the number of people with diabetes will nearly to 16.1 million.

Building capacity and improving access to diabetes prevention and care is the need of time, WHO statistics shows WHO statistics show that for every 1000 people, Pakistan has 1.4 healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses and midwives). This is much lower than the world average of 4.5 per 1000 people. Because diabetes is a chronic and progressive disease, people with diabetes need continued access to medical services and especially qualified healthcare professionals.

In this perspective, Alliance for Diabetes & Liver Diseases, Islamabad & Novo Nordisk Pakistan conducted a one day “Hands-on Training Workshop for Nurses in the care of diabetic patients” with the objective of training nurses and healthcare workers in the management of patients with diabetes as a part of multidisciplinary team.

Addressing to the event Founder and Chairman ADLD (Alliance for Diabetes & Liver Diseases) CDLD (Center For Diabetes & Liver Diseases) emphasized on the importance of capacity building of health care team in the field of diabetes care, through collaborative efforts the disease burden can be minimized.

The faculty members for the event were Dr Musarat Iqbal (Course Director ADLD Islamabad), Dr Shajee Ahmed Siddiqui (Professor PIMS Islamabad), Dr Hafiz Sajjad (Medical Specialist CDA Islamabad), Dr Shehzad Tahir (Diabetologist), Dr Muhammad Iqbal (Diabetologist), Dr Azeem Lodhi, Mr Hammid (Podiatrist) & chairman ADLDI Dr Saleem Qureshi

In the end speakers re-emphasized on the importance of better management to the patients with diabetes, which ultimately will uplift the overall quality of life of the patients and help in changing diabetes® in Pakistan.
