DUBAI: For the 7th consecutive year, Dubai Duty Free (DDF) supported the Dubai Municipality Car Free Day initiative on Sunday, 4th February 2018. The Car Free Day aims to inspire people to make more thoughtful decisions particularly related to transportation. With the city’s extensive transit system, the campaign encourages residents and motorists to give up their cars for a day and instead use public transportation such as the metro trains, bus and abra or choose alternative means of moving about the city such as cycling and walking.
As part of DDF participation, a gathering in the presence of the Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin with the DDF management and staff was organized in the morning along with Dubai Duty Free’s cycling enthusiasts who geared up and cycled from their homes to the company headquarters. Other means of support came from staff who are non-users of the company transport who organized carpools instead of using their individual vehicles while several more took the metro to work.
At Dubai Duty Free, Car Free Day is part of the organization’s environmental practices aimed at reducing its carbon emissions. DDF utilizes a carpooling system for the transportation of staff of which 92% of the workforce avails, cutting down the use of individual vehicles. A regular schedule of delivery of goods to the terminals is also observed to ensure efficient use of delivery trucks. To keep a fuel-efficient delivery fleet, all company vehicles are regularly serviced and properly tuned. DDF drivers also practice fuel conservation such as use of the vehicle’s air-condition sparingly when applicable or turning off engine during delivery drop offs. News Desk
