DUBAI: The Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) announced the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arab Women’s Council – Arab Organization for Social Responsibility to help reinforce cooperative frameworks across various fields related to Intellectual Property (IP). The new partnership demonstrates EIPA’s continuing efforts to provide the necessary support needed in further promoting a culture of IP–increasing individual awareness on the important role that IP plays, fostering its culture and developing the means to protect it, which is a pillar of comprehensive development and a key driver in the efforts to position the UAE as one of the world’s leading countries.

The MoU was signed by His Excellency (H.E.) Dr Abdul Quddoos A.R. Al Obaidli, Assistant Commander for Excellence & Pioneering, Chairman of EIPA and Lina Daghlawi Moukarzel, President, Arab Women’s Council – Arab Organization for Social Responsibility.

“We are proud to have signed this strategic new MoU, which complements our understanding of the important role that women today play in our society and the achievements that they have achieved across various international and local fields,” said H.E. Alobaidli. “Therefore, we must provide Arab women with the essential knowledge needed to enable them to perform their social role to the fullest. There is no doubt that intellectual property is an essential part of this knowledge as it is today a vital tool for advancing economic growth and social well-being. In this context, with the growing proportion of women’s representation and the emergence of active women leaders, there is a need to increase the awareness of individuals in the fields of intellectual property and to promote access to knowledge in this field.”

The two parties agreed to exchange studies and research aimed at spreading a culture of IP, developing awareness methods in this field, drafting and implementing related legal legislation and exchanging knowledge in the same field through hosting seminars and lectures to raise awareness about the IP rights (IPR) of the private and public sectors and benefiting from studies and researches covering important IP related subjects in the UAE.

EIPA continues to forge strategic partnerships with various government and private entities in the efforts to disseminate the country’s pioneering move to adopt IP best practices and to help achieve public policy goals and objectives–making it one of the best countries in the world by 2021, especially in the field of IP protection.
